If you are interested in gardening and water features, the Green Country Water Garden Society (GCWGS) Pond Tour is the best bargain in northeast Oklahoma. Many members of GCWGS will open their backyards to the public during a weekend in late June.
Pond owners and those who are thinking of taking the plunge will enjoy the colorful sights of water plants and fish and the crashing and babbling sounds of moving water that blend into this type of landscaping. Water Gardening is its own “living and breathing” ecosystem, combining gardening, fish-keeping, bird-watching, nature and habitat restoration. It is part hobby, part educational and part spiritual.
The 18th annual GCWGS Pond Tour shows some of Green Country’s finest water gardens and backyard ponds. Pond owners will share their experiences in building ponds, selecting various water plants and choosing from many species of fish. Ponds on the tour demonstrate the many possible shapes and sizes and fit to all sizes of pocketbooks. Pond owners are enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge with people who want to learn how to build or manage water gardens.
The GCWGS provides the opportunity for interested parties to share ideas and experiences successes, and pitfalls, relating to the care and enjoyment of ponds. The club meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Tulsa Garden Center (2435 S. Peoria) focusing on the “how to” aspects of water gardening. The GCWGS supports the Linnaeus garden as well as provides scholarships to budding water garden, horticulturists. The Pond Tour is GCWGS’s way of sharing their love of water gardening with Tulsa and its surrounding communities.
Tour hours are from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm on Saturday and from noon until 6:00 pm on Sunday. Admission to this self-guided tour is only $5.00 per person for the entire weekend. Check back here for details as they become available.
